Speech Title: The Technical Requirements for SAF Deployment: Key Challenges on the Road to 100%SAF Compatibility
Biography
Nicolas Jeuland is a highly regarded expert in the aeronautics industry, currently serving as a "Future Fuels" expert and Prospective Manager at Safran, where he oversees the company's roadmap for low-carbon fuels and environmental impact.  He specializes in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), engine-fuel interactions, and aviation environmental strategies. His work involves navigating the technical and regulatory complexities of decarbonizing the aerospace sector, including non-CO2 effects and the integration of alternative fuels.
Before joining the Safran Group in 2014, he spent 15 years at the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP Energies nouvelles), where he led departments focused on fuels, biofuels, lubricants, and emissions. He holds degrees in chemistry as well as fuels and engines.
Beyond his corporate duties at Safran, he serves as a Reserve Officer (Colonel) for the French Fuel Logistic Agency, providing energy prospective for military forces. He is also a frequent contributor to technical conferences, academic webinars, and industry discussions regarding the future of aviation decarbonization.
Abstract
SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels) must combine two key dimensions: sustainability and aviation fuels. The first is strongly linked to national regulations, while the second is a matter of safety, requiring that all new production pathways be considered as true aviation fuels by demonstrating their full compatibility with aircraft systems.  This keynote will focus on the safety and compatibility requirements associated with SAF deployment, emphasizing the main technical and scientific challenges, as well as the central role of qualification processes. International collaboration is increasingly required to build this shared scientific backbone, with OEMs playing a key role in supporting this effort. This presentaiton will also describe a technical roadmap to enable 100%SAF compatibility in the years to come.
